Springfield Symphony explores nostalgia and grief over lost loved ones
The Springfield Symphony continues its “Swipe Right” season at its classical concert Love and Loss on Saturday, October 15th at 7:30 p.m. The program will feature Jennifer Higdon’s Blue Cathedral, Brahms’ Symphony No. 4, and virtuoso violinist Rachel Lee Priday on Barber’s Violin Concerto.
Exploring the nostalgia and grief over lost loved ones, the performance will begin with Jennifer Higdon’s Blue Cathedral, a beautiful elegy to her late brother. Followed by Barber’s romantic Violin Concerto, featuring superstar violinist, Rachel Lee Priday. “Rachel is one of the most spectacularly talented soloists we’ve featured in the past few years. I’m so excited to have her back to play Barber’s Violin Concerto,” said Music Director and Conductor, Kyle Wiley Pickett. “This piece is stunningly beautiful and extremely difficult for the soloist. I’m excited for our audience to get to hear Rachel play this wonderful piece.”
Brahms’ Symphony No. 4 will round out the evening. “Brahms’s 4th Symphony is one of my all-time favorite pieces. It is romantic, nostalgic, gorgeous, melancholic, and ultimately uplifting. We played this piece on my first concert as SSO Music Director, back in 2013, and it’s time for us to revisit this masterpiece,” said Pickett. “This symphony epitomizes my idea of Brahms – that he always leaves me wanting to hear a little bit more,” he continued.
This concert will take place at 7:30 p.m. at Juanita K. Hammons Hall for the Performing Arts. Single Tickets are $25 – $60 with discounts available for students and seniors.
