Springfield Symphony meditates on notorious Spanish lover, Don Juan
On Saturday, January 14th at 7:30 p.m. the Springfield Symphony Orchestra invites you to meditate on love themes ranging from love of country to notorious Spanish lover, Don Juan. The SSO returns from the holidays with the world premiere of the beautiful Rhapsody for Cello and Orchestra from composer Daijana Wallace, as well as Sibelious’s Second Symphony.
“It is always exciting to play a world premiere, and this month is no exception. Daijana Wallace is an extraordinarily talented young composer from Kansas. We’re very proud to be playing the world premiere of the full orchestra version of her Rhapsody for Cello and Orchestra, featuring our own principal cellist, Daniel Ketter. It’s a beautiful piece, and I know the audience is going to love it,” said Music Director and Conductor, Kyle Wiley Pickett. “Sibelius’s Second Symphony is one of the pieces that I get the most requests for, and it’s no surprise why. It’s passionate, stormy, grandiose, and gorgeous. It’s a perfect winter symphony for January, and its lush melodies highlight this season’s theme of love!”
The Springfield Symphony is hosting a Young Professionals meet and greet at eFactory on Thursday, January 12th from 5pm-6:30pm for interested college students and Springfield area young professionals. During this time, you can chat with Conductor Pickett, guest artist Daniel Ketter, and composer Daijana Wallace, and enjoy appetizers before being treated to a sneak peek of the orchestra’s rehearsal. $15 student ticket prices will be available for anyone attending this event, as well as anyone purchasing tickets in person at Hammons Hall with a valid school ID. For a limited time, the SSO has Holiday Packages available. Packages include either two (2) 22/23 Gold Season Tickets to each remaining concert (January – May 2023) for $250 or two (2) 22/23 Gold Single Tickets to the concert of your choice (January – May 2023) for $75. This concert will take place at 7:30 p.m. at Juanita K. Hammons Hall for the Performing Arts. Single Tickets are $25 – $60 with discounts available for students and seniors.
