Springfield Symphony performs Broadway favorite Brigadoon with MSU theatre and dance programs

The Springfield Symphony hosts its first pops concert of its “Dance Mix” season, Highland – Broadway in Concert on Saturday, November 6th at 7:30 p.m. The program will include Lerner and Loewe’s Brigadoon featuring Missouri State University’s BFA Musical Theatre and Dance programs under the direction of Broadway legend Robert Westenberg. The performance will take place at Juanita K. Hammons Hall for the Performing Arts.

Brigadoon is one of my favorite musicals, and for some reason it isn’t performed very often,” said Music Director and Conductor Kyle Wiley Pickett. “I’m so thrilled that we get to bring it to life with the talented students of the MSU BFA Musical Theatre and Dance programs.” Director of the Missouri State University BFA Musical Theatre program is Robert Westenberg. After a lengthy performing career that included work on Broadway and Off-Broadway, in regional theatres, national tours, television and film, Mr. Westenberg is now concentrating on teaching, directing and playwriting. He is perhaps best remembered for his roles in the original Broadway casts of Into the Woods as the Wolf and Prince, for which he received a Tony nomination and Drama Desk Award, Secret Garden as Neville Craven, and Sunday in the Park with George, where he replaced Mandy Patinkin in the title role.

After serving as chair of the theatre department at Drury University for several years, he is now the coordinator of the BFA Musical Theatre program at Missouri State University. “Our first collaboration with them on Oklahoma! two years ago was a roaring success,” continued Pickett. “We’re going to follow it up with another fantastic show that the audiences are just going to love. I love the Scottish dancing and music, and it’s such a charming story. Since it’s a show that really features dance, it’s a perfect fit for our ‘Dance Mix’ season. I have a feeling everyone’s going to want to be jumping and doing a highland jig at this performance.”

Single Tickets are $15 – $50 with discounts available for students and seniors.
