We’re off to a monumental start as we open our 75th season with a celebration of the Symphony’s rich history. Past meets present as Music Director Ron Spigelman is joined by two former Music Directors of the Springfield Symphony, Apo Hsu and Charles Bontrager. All three maestros will share the podium as they conduct a fanfare specially commissioned for the occasion by local-esteemed composer Carlyle Sharpe. Other featured works are Berlioz Roman Carnival Overture, Shostakovich Festive Overture and Beethoven’s immortal Symphony No. 5! We continue in our historical celebration by turning to the future with a performance by the 23-year-old winner of the 2009 Hellam Young Artists’ Competition, cello soloist Madeleine Kabat. This invigorating evening will not disappoint; come be enthralled by the energy of past, present, and future sounds of the Springfield Symphony! Beethoven Symphony No. 5 in C minor • Berlioz Roman Carnival Overture Carlyle Sharpe Fanfare (World Premiere) • Shostakovich Festive Overture Tchaikovsky Variations on a Rococo Theme for Cello and Orchestra Apo Hsu Charles Bontrager Madeleine Kabat
