Get ready for the ultimate night of passionate music! We start with the dramatic and romantic Polovtsian Dances from Borodin’s Prince Igor, which has inspired countless uses in popular culture—you’ll recognize Stranger in Paradise from the musical Kismet and alluring and exotic melodies you’ve heard in movies, television shows, and even video games. Then we turn to the most passionate love story of all time with Prokofiev’s Romeo and Juliet. We explore the extremes of orchestral instruments with Vaughan Williams’ Tuba Concerto performed by Chicago Symphony Orchestra’s principal tubist Gene Pokorny. Don’t miss this rare opportunity to hear one of the greatest brass players in the world. And we close with Ravel’s Bolero, one of the most fiery, seductive, and ecstatic works in the orchestral repertoire.
